Teaser Trailer for AstroBoy

It's been a joy and an honor to be working on AstroBoy with an amazing crew. AstroBoy is production designed by Sam Michlap and Art Director Jake Rowell, and our Character Designer is Luis Grane. Felix Ip is overseeing the production end and he's great. After viewing some finished scenes in the movie, I have to say I'm pretty excited. It's due out in 2009 and I can't wait to see it all done.

Here are my first attempts at matte painting. I was watching Peter Jackson's King Kong the other night and was inspired to create my own clip. Very crude, but alot of fun. The giant rocks in the painting were all from one image. I truly admire and respect all those damn great matte painters who make it look so easy.

Tinkerbell

Wow, it took awhile but Tinkerbell is finally out on video. I first worked on Tinkerbell about 3 years ago. It was to say the least quite an adventure. There were story issues, the change from 2D to 3D, an ever changing schedule with harrowing deadlines, and many more things which made the completion of the project a challenging one, but through it all, it was amazing and one of the best experiences I've ever had. I had the chance to work with some of the most amazing designers and storyboard artists. If you have a chance to see Tink, go check it out. Here are some very quick sketches I produced for one of the sequences. Fast and furious, but fun!

Definitely Next Year ...

I'm so sorry that I couldn't make it to ComicCon this year. I was on vacation with my family and was planning to attend the Con, but an opportunity came up to spend more time with them, and I just couldn't pass. I was trying to make up as much time with my girls and thus extended our family trip. I'm so sorry I missed all the great folks at San Diego. I'm sure it was a blast as usual.

I hope everyone had a great time and I look forward to attending next year. In fact, I'm working on my much delayed book. I'll be posting some work as the months go by. Til then, stay happy and keep drawing and posting!

Comic_Con 2008

Wow, another year has gone by and it's time for Comic-Con !! "Bits & Pieces, Vol. 1 & 2" will be available at . These will be the last ashcan books I do. I know I mentioned it last year, but my hope is to do a bigger book in color next time with alot more stuff (more layouts then characters). The Totoro Forest Project

The Totoro Forest Project is an international charity effort to save Sayama Forest, also known as Totoro Forest. This Endangered Sanctuary on the outskirts of Tokyo is where director Hayao Miyazaki got the inspiration for his much loved character "Totoro".
