Just wanted to give a little more love to Colin's beautiful work. It was a joy to come to work to see what Colin would produce overnight. Just simply awe-inspiring beauty!!!!
Colin has trained his eye to see only the essentials in a scene, alongside which he has also honed his composition skillz to only paint what is necessary in a scene. This takes him within a hair's breadth of ... perfection.
His work is a bit like good Zen gardening: Add one more thing and the composition falls apart. Subtract one thing, and the whole thing falls apart.
I had the pleasure of working with Colin several years ago on "The Emperor's New Groove" and I remain astonished at his ability and imagination. The things he can do with scale and color and composition are really just phenomenal. It's a real treat to see his development work here as it deserves a wider audience outside of the studio archives. As for his digital painting skills, as I recall he picked them up overnight.

Michael, well said! I love how Colin simplifies a layout with the basics, and uses the light to help amplify the focal point.
